Free and Open Source Software in Education
For a while, schools’ choice of office suites was limited to Microsoft Office or … Microsoft Office. But a viable open-source option has emerged: OpenOffice.org. Should they consider OpenOffice as good alternative to Microsoft Office? Will it make sense?

The OpenOffice.org is based on an older version of StarOffice, the StarOffice 5.1, acquired by Sun Microsystems in August 1999. The source code of the suite was released and started a project of developing an open-source software on October 13, 2000, OpenOffice.org. The main objective was to provide an alternative low-cost, high quality and open source.
therefore an excellent alternative concideri making much sense …
I think it will not make sense.
Because OpenOffice.org is not equal to the office and schools and businesses have all the office. And when the students are to the world of work, whether in school worked with the OpenOfifce will not work so well.
I think that OpenOffice.org .is a good altenative to Microsoft Office, but as all we know 90% of the world (schools, companies, private homes, etc..)use a suite microsoft office. why we must choose this option when the majority of the formations in schools is given in microsoft office. The majority of the companies works with the Microsoft office, and then it does not compensate to make a formation with openoffice.org (although to be very similar) This yes, is a good alternative for domestic uses.
The open office is the solution for the substituion of the microsoft office in schools to contribute for the new generation of students!!
In financial terms the openoffice.org is better because it is free, while Microsoft Office is not free.
Both the openoffice.org such as Microsoft Office are good, but in choosing between one of them has to bear in mind the features of each and what we will need to use the programs on your computer.
In my opinion I think it is a good alternative because it is cheaper than Microsoft Office, but since most are accustomed to working with the Office will now be a little hard to learn OpenOffice is even, in some parts, equal.
On the one hand I think the OpenOffice.org is more profitable as it has several programs and are also good, and also has a good thing, that to be free, but on the other hand we also have Microsoft Office that is not free, but has better programs
Any one of the two products is very good but each to their users, because there are those users who need good programs, because such a need. Logo and recommend the best because you have Microsoft Office programs, but for those who do not precisely because of major programs work with little things, and the most profitable because OpenOffice.org is free.
I do not know what the OpenOffice.org says on, because I do not know the softwer, and for what I am hearing I know that it is free and can be a good alternative for the schools because the Microsoft Office’legal is quite expensive for the schools.
It is an excellent alternative to the number of applications of Microsoft Office. The OpenOffice has all the tools of Office. Since Spreadsheets (Excel), presentations (PowerPoint) to edit the text (Word).
I think schools shouldn’t consider a alternative because it makes no sense learning about the open office and its procedures when enterprises don’t use it. Microsoft office continues to be everybodys choice of office suites so schools should use it to.
Maybe someday it will change…
Sincerely yours…
the open office has a vantage becouse if a persone doesn’t need the computer to big works it’s better becouse it’s free.
the OpenOffice.org is compatible with file formats of Microsoft Office. As a free software and open source, will be installed by default in the project Pc Connected.
The open office and a very useful program for print, but with free and was used more in schools.
Now in schools midrosot office word has been replaced by open office.
The open office and more profitable to print and to the school and because an operation for free while Microsoft Office and expensive and does not reward a company to be EUR 200 per license for each computer
In my opinion the open office for students and enterfrises is good gecause is free. on the othen hand the windows office is fayed and it’s very extensive. but most people is using the microsot office and it’s difficult to change to open office.
OpenOffice.org Portable is a full-featured office suite that’s compatible with Microsoft Office, Word Perfect, Lotus and other office applications. It’s easy-to-use and feature-rich, performing nearly all of the functions you’d expect in an office suite, but at no cost.
Not is free but is very good in my opinion !
the office open and widely used in businesses and schools, why and for free, and not microsft word, and that is open office has advantages.
